Nico Schmidt, a senior at Mayer Lutheran High School, recently signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Southwest Minnesota State University (Division II) next fall.

Schmidt led the Crusaders in kills this season, totaling over 1,200 kills over her four-year volleyball career.

She has received All-Conference honors, was named the MVP of the Minnesota River Conference this season, the All-Conference team, the All-Metro third team, and the All-State team. She was also among the top 10 metro kill leaders.

Crusader volleyball coach Joelle Grimsley said Schmidt has been a joy to coach and will be missed.

“I will not only miss her skills, but her Christian leadership on and off the court,” Grimsley said. “Her willingness to learn, work hard and her positive, fun attitude will take her very far at SMSU and in life.”

At LHS, Schmidt is also an All-Conference member of the basketball team. She has also been involved in the Honors Choir and the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Kreg and Dede Schmidt of Chaska.

SMSU is located in Marshall, Minnesota, and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
