History group meeting
THURSDAY, DEC. 13 — The quarterly meeting of the Willkommen Heritage and Preservation Society will be held at the Heritage Center (102 E Main Street, NYA) and will begin at 7 p.m. Topics of discussion will be planning for the Annual Meeting in February and the display for spring. Pet Adoption
SATURDAY, DEC. 15 — Carver Scott Humane Society volunteers will hold a pet adoption from noon to 3 p.m. at PETCO in Eden Prairie. Info: (952) 368-3553 or www.carverscotths.org.

Pioneer Christmas
SATURDAY, DEC. 15 — The Carver County Historical Society is hosting an Old-Fashioned Pioneer Christmas from noon to 3 p.m. (555 W 1st Street, Waconia). This is a free event. Learn how the pioneer settlers may have celebrated. Make old-fashioned ornaments, gifts from a simpler time, and hear Christmas tales of old as you enjoy hot cocoa or cider. This event is for kids and adults of all ages.

Caroling for cans
SATURDAY, DEC. 15 — Join Girl Scout Troop 16312 in caroling for the food shelf from 4-6 p.m. Meet at elementary school parking lot. Everyone will get into groups, disperse around town to sing. At 6 p.m. all groups will converge at the food shelf to sing carols and hand over items received. All ages welcome to attend. The more the merrier.

ISD #108 meeting time
MONDAY, DEC. 17 — The December regular board meeting will be at 5:45 p.m. in Central High School Room A240. The budget and final levy presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m. This meeting is open to the public.

Alzheimer’s support
TUESDAY, DEC. 18 — The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine and its Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association provide resources and a support group for community members whose lives are touched by Alzheimer’s disease and other memory loss disorders. The monthly support group is free and open to the public from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Kingsway Retirement Living in the Ratzkeller. “Caring and Sharing” will be the topic. Anyone with questions, call Sarah Beckius, LSW at (952) 873-2161. Therapeutic respite care is available for your loved one with Alzheimer’s/Dementia for the hour-while you attend the meeting.

NAMI meeting
THURSDAY, DEC. 20 — The support group of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will meet at the Moravian Church in Waconia beginning at 7 p.m. The church is located at 209 2nd St. E.

Authors’ Collective
SATURDAY, DEC. 22 — Calling all authors! An Authors’ Collective invites writers in Waconia and surrounding areas to attend a meeting at the Chanhassen Library from 1 to 4 p.m. The Collective offers opportunities for writers to share resources and learn from one another in a friendly and engaging environment. NYA Lions Steak Fry
FRIDAY, JAN. 4 — The NYA Lions are hosting a steak fry from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Willkommen Memorial Park Pavilion in NYA. Includes steak, baked potato, salad and bread. All proceeds donated locally.

Library storytime
TUESDAYS, JAN. 15 TO MARCH 26 — Family storytime for all ages, with a focus on children age 2 and up at 11 a.m. at the Norwood Young America Library (314 Elm Street 467-2665). Children, parents and their caregivers are invited to come and share 30 minutes of stories, music and movement that encourages the development of early literacy skills. No registration required.
