Duane “Jim” Richard Schug, age 74, of Winsted, formerly of Norwood Young America, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. at Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America with interment following in the church cemetery. Clergy officiating: Fr. Paul Ardolf; organist: Marilee Widmer; congregational hymns: “Amazing Grace,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Joy To The World”; military honors: VFW Post #1783; casket bearers: Terry Schug, Richard Schug, Ronald Schug, Tad Feltmann, Gerald Meuffels Jr., Ralph Schneewind.

Duane “Jim” Richard Schug was born on July 13, 1938, in Cologne, the son of Wilfred Sr. and Virginia (Beversdorf) Schug. Jim was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne. He also received his education at St. Bernard’s Catholic School. Jim entered active military service in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. On July 5, 1975 Jim was united in marriage to Mary Louise Franck at the Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America. The couple made their home in Young America, until 2005 when Jim moved to St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Rosemary and Rita. Jim and Mary shared over 32 years of marriage, until Mary passed away on Dec. 14, 2007. Jim worked at Central Elementary School as a janitor until 2002, when he retired. He served on the Young America Fire Department for over 20 years and was a past fire chief. Jim was a member of the Young America VFW Post #1783. He also was a member of the Church of the Ascension and the Knights of Columbus. Jim was a hard worker, taking pride in everything he did, which was evident in the way he was always helping others and his love of working for the school. Jim enjoyed fishing, listening to old time music and loved to visit and tease. Jim especially cherished the time spent with his family and friends. Jim passed away at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 23 days. Blessed be his memory.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred Sr. and Virginia Schug; wife, Mary Schug; brother, Wilfred Schug Jr., brothers and sister-in-law, Leroy Schneewind, Joyce Schug, Gerald Meuffels Sr.

Jim is survived by his: children, Rosemary Dorn and her husband, Jim, of Sauk Rapids, Rita Compart of Norwood Young America; grandchildren, Dylan, Mitchell and Morgan; siblings, Dorlene Schneewind of Waconia, Delbert “Butch” Schug of Norwood Young America, Dolores Meuffels of Waconia, Allen Schug and his wife, Patsy, of Watertown, Elaine Feltmann and her husband, Roger, of Glencoe; sister-in-law, Lois Hendricks and her husband, Jim, of Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
