Melvin T. Walter, age 86, of Cologne, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at the Hope Residence in Belle Plaine.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne with Father Gregory Abbott as the celebrant. Visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at church; interment St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
Melvin was born on Oct. 25, 1926 in Cologne the son of John A. and Clara E. (Wickenhauser) Walter. Melvin was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne.
Melvin always had a deck of cards with him, willing to play a hand at any time. He enjoyed going out to eat, riding his bike, fishing and attending the state fair. Melvin would wear a white shirt and tie every day of the week. He liked being on the farm in his younger days, helping out his parents. Melvin will be remembered for his love of pop, candy and taking pictures.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents John and Clara Walter; sister Marion Geske; sister-in-law Beverly Walter.
Melvin is survived by his loving family: brothers and sister-in-law Vernon and Doreen Walter of Cologne, Dick Walter of Cologne; brother-in-law Everett Geske of St. Paul; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Casket Bearers Jim Geske, Tom Walter, Terry Walter, Gary Walter, Larry Walter, Randy Walter, Rick Walter.
