Support abounds for CMS student
Some stories are definitely buzz worthy — and this is one of them.
Tate Maurer, the son of Mark and Katie Maurer of Waconia, is a student at Clearwater Middle School in Waconia. Tate was diagnosed with cancer on Thanksgiving, one day after his 12th birthday.
“He has Burkitt’s Lymphoma. If you have to have a childhood lymphoma, this is the one to get, as it is highly curable,” said Katie, who noted she did not use the word “remission” and instead used the word “cure.”
“He began his chemo treatments on Wednesday, Nov. 28. We are currently in the hospital for round two,” Katie said.
In an impressive show of support, more than 100 students turned out for the “Shave Your Lid for This Brave Kid” event held at Clearwater on Dec. 5. The students — many are friends of Tate while others don’t know him at all — shaved their heads to show support for their classmate.
