The Watertown-Mayer High School gymnastics team enjoyed another strong week last week, winning a home triangular meet on Thursday, Dec. 13, and then winning the nine-team Annandale Holiday Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 15.
At Saturday’s invitational, the Royals scored 135.4 points to hold off Delano, which finished second with 133.65 points. Becker was third at 131.65 points.
Brooke Leaf also won the all-around for the Royals, who took four of the top 11 spots. Leaf was first at 35.5 points, Megan McCain was third at 34.05, Caitlin Duske was seventh at 33.5 and Katie Heilman was 11th at 32.0.
On the vault, Heilman took second for the Royals with a score of 9.3. Duske was third at 9.15, and Leaf was seventh at 8.95.
On the uneven bars, Leaf took second with a score of 8.65, while McCain was fifth at 8.25. Duske won the balance beam with a score of 9.0, and Leaf finished third with a score of 8.8. McCain was sixth on that event with a score of 8.5. Duske also finished second on floor with a score of 9.15, just ahead of Leaf, who was third with a 9.1. Ally Matrella was seventh at 8.75, McCain was ninth at 8.65 and Heilman and 11th at 8.6.
The Royals hosted St. Peter and Glencoe-Silver Lake in a home triangular on Thursday, Dec. 13, and came away with an easy win. The Royals scored 135.825 points, while St. Peter was second with 116.825 and Glencoe-Silver Lake was third with 113.525.
The Royals took the top two spots in the all-around, with Brooke Leaf finishing first with a score of 34.075, and Tina Scanlon taking second with a score of 33.725. The Royals also won all four individual events, with Leaf winning bars (8.2), McCain winning beam (8.625) and Duske winning floor (9.175) and vault (9.175).
On bars, McCain took second (7.9), , Scanlon was third (7.65) and Heilman was fourth (7.5). On beam, Leaf was second (8.35), Scanlon was fourth (8.1) and Heilman was fifth (7.8). On floor, Leaf was second (9.05), McCain was third (8.75) and Heilman was fourth (8.7). On vault, Scanlon was second (9.1) and Leaf was third (8.975).
The Royals return to action on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. At Maple Lake. After that, they have off until their own invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5.
