The Math Team from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Waconia hosted its first home meet on Monday, Dec. 10. Eight teams from schools including Minnetonka East, Orono, Delano, Immaculate Heart of Mary, and St. Therese squared off with each participant taking two individual tests followed by a six person team test.
St. Joe’s two teams finished with 65 and 61 points, good enough for fifth and sixth place. The meet was won by Delano with 101 points, followed by Minnetonka White with 97, Minnetonka Blue 78, and Orono with 74. St. Therese of Deephaven closely trailed the St. Joe’s teams with score of 59.
One of the problems taken from an individual test follows: Two circles, each having a diameter of 2 cm overlap. The edge of each circle crosses through the other circle’s center. What is the distance between the two intersecting points?
A drawing will be held from all correctly submitted answers with the winner getting a $25 Kwik Trip gift certificate. Answers can be submitted to StJoesMathTeam@gmail.com. Deadline is Dec. 31. Remember to include the proper units!
St. Joe’s will compete in its final meet of the season on Jan. 14.
