The Wildcats are now 3-6 this season after last week’s loss.
Waconia had solid first and third periods against Hutchinson on Dec. 20, only allowing three Tiger shots on goal each period.
“We had two great periods with a lot of quality scoring chances,” Waconia head coach Dan Benham said.
The Wildcats tallied 30 shots on goal to Hutchinson’s 15.
But where the game changed was in the second period. When Hutchinson scored its first goal at 4:09 in the second, the goal kicked the Tiger offense into high gear. The Tigers scored again at 6:59 to lead 2-0.
Minute 11 was killer for Waconia, as Hutchinson scored twice in ten seconds. At 10:37 and again at 10:47, this time short-handed, the Tigers continued to get around Waconia senior goalie Nathan Kovach.
“We had a difficult second period,” Benham said. “Couldn’t rebound and get out game going.”
Hutchinson would score once more in the third, on a power play, to make it a 5-0 game. Kovach saved 10 shots for a .667 save percentage.
