Waconia native on national title team

The Golden Bears of Concordia University – St. Paul recently captured their sixth consecutive NCAA Division II national title in women’s volleyball.

Kara Pioske, a 2009 graduate of Waconia High School, is now a junior at Concordia and an integral member of the volleyball team.

She led the team in serve receive attempts this season, and was third in digs. She played in all 37 matches this season. With an overall record of 33-4, the Golden Bears defeated the University of Tampa for the national title on Dec. 8 in Pensacola, Florida.

Pioske is one of four Golden Bears players that call Carver County and the surrounding area home. Pioske is the daughter of Brian and Patty Pioske of Waconia. Cassie Haag, a senior middle hitter, is an alumni of Southwest Christian High School (Chaska) and is the granddaughter of Joseph and Rae Ann Tewinkle of Waconia. Hailing from Delano, Kayla Koenecke is a right side hitter for Concordia, and from Victoria, junior setter Amanda Konetchy played volleyball for Chaska High School.
