The Waconia girls’ basketball team played in the Southwest Minnesota State Holiday Classic tournament on Dec. 29. In their only game, the Wildcats defeated Watertown, South Dakota in a 61-50 contest.
After struggling to shoot in the first half, Waconia led by just two points, 24-22. The Wildcats went on an 8-0 run in the second half to finish 11 points ahead of the Arrows after some solid defensive antics by Waconia.
Top Waconia scorers included senior Morgan Iverson (13), senior Stephanie Dressen (10), sophomore Anna Schmitt (9), and junior Nicole Dressen (9). All eight Wildcats that played during the game scored.
The ‘Cats excelled at the free throw line, sinking 16 of 18 shots.
The Wildcats are now 7-5 this season and will kick off weeks of upcoming conference action next Tuesday, Jan. 8 when they host Hutchinson.
