Hoping for the big one

Nicole, Rebecca and Todd Manteuffel of Cologne hope for a fish to bite while fishing on Lake Waconia on Wednesday, Dec. 26. It was their first time out fishing this winter. When this photo was taken, the trio had caught a couple of sunfish. The current ice thickness on Lake Waconia is approximately nine to 10 inches. According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, at least four inches is recommended for ice fishing, five inches for snowmobiles or ATVs, eight to 12 inches for a car or small pickup and 12 to 15 inches for a medium truck.
