Firearms safety training
Minnesota Firearms Safety Hunter Education will be offered at the Mayer Community Center for all persons 12 years of age and older (youth must be 12 years old by the next hunting season). Adults are also welcome. This course is sponsored by the Mayer-New Germany Sportsman Club. Cost is $10. Students must have parental consent.
Registration will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Mayer Community Center. The course will run every Thursday from 7-9 p.m. until April 4. Call Beth Schrupp at 952-442-4443 (days) with any questions.
Mayer Moxie 2 Health Initiative
The city of Mayer and the Mayer Park Board are excited to offer two new unique program challenges for 2013.
Building Your Way to Wellness/Weight Loss Challenge will be from Jan. 24 through March 21. This program is an eight-week, physical activity program that will help you become more active. Participate as an individual or a team. Track your minutes of daily physical activity while receiving tips about hydration, cross-training, stretching and more!
Compete against others each week to reach your goal, and instill healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Challenge yourself to win in the weight loss challenge with the highest percentage of weight lost as an individual or a team to win cash rewards.
Train for the Trail will be held from April 4 through May 23. This program is designed to help you build strength and endurance for the great outdoors. Sign up for one program or both. Registration is on the city Web site. A discount will be given for those who sign up for both programs.
Mayer Moves For Moxie will conclude with an optional 5K run/walk.
Christmas Tree Pickup
On Saturday, Jan. 12, the Mayer Lutheran Girls’ basketball team will be collecting trees curbside. Have your tree on the curb by 7 a.m. They can also be dropped of at the Mayer recycling and compost site located on CR 30 on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Remember to remove all lights and ornaments. Do not the tree in a plastic bag. Pleas have trees at the curb the night before pickup so that your tree won’t be missed.
Red Cross Bloodmobile
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the mayer Community Center on Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 1-7 p.m. Walk in donors are always welcome.
