Charles “Charlie” Ittel, age 89, of Norwood Young America passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at The Harbor in Norwood Young America. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 11a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, with interment following at the church cemetery. Charles “Charlie” Ittel was born on July 19, 1923, in Waconia Township, the son of George and Malinda (Karels) Ittel. Charles was baptized as an infant on Aug. 19, 1923, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 21, 1937, by Pastor Kramer, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. He grew up near Mayer, and was a graduate of Norwood Young America Central High School Class of 1942. On Aug. 12, 1944 Charles was united in marriage to Elvera Maack by Rev. O. Vriesen at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Lynn and Mary. The couple made their home on the Maack family farm, where Charles began farming. Charles and Elvera shared over 55 years of marriage, until Elvera passed away on July 11, 2000. Charles farmed east of Hamburg and enjoyed it. He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg. Charles enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and traveling. He loved visiting with people and was outgoing, being able to talk with anyone. Family was very important to Charles and he cherished the time spent with his family and friends. Charles passed away at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 14 days. Blessed be his memory.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Elvera; parents, George and Malinda Ittel; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Anna Maack; great-grandchild, Molly Schwecke; brothers, Donald Ittel, George L. Ittel (Luanna); sister, Dorothy Good (Walter C.); brothers and sister-in-law, Marcella Wirtz (Charles), Wilbert Maack, Walter Beneke.
Charles is survived by his: daughters, Lynn Wroge and her husband, Wally, of Hamburg, Mary Stuewe and her husband, John, of Chaska; grandchildren, Kim Schwecke and her husband, Scott, of Gibbon, Karen Hoppe and her husband, David, of Norwood Young America, Kristen Cullen and her husband, David, of Minneapolis, Jeff Stuewe and his wife, Rhonda, of Belgrade, Minn., Dawn Schoborg and her husband, Simon, of St. Cloud; great-grandchildren, Tyler Schwecke, Joey Schwecke and his fiancée, Brittany Tischmak, Justin Schwecke, Lindsey Trebesch and her husband, Kipp, Lauren Hoppe, Anna Cullen, Lucy Cullen, Delia Cullen, Emma Stuewe, Noah Schoborg, Eli Schoborg, Megan Schoborg, Jessica Schoborg; great-great-grandchildren, Kippy and Collin Trebesch; special friend, Ruth Kloth of Norwood Young America; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ittel of Glencoe, Glendora Beneke of Waconia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
