Richard “Dick” Dietrich Stockman, age 69, of Plato, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato, with interment following at the church cemetery. Clergy officiating: Pastor William Baldwin; organist: Diane Anderson; soloist: Bob Becker, “On Eagle’s Wings”; congregational hymns: “Near The Cross,” “Borning Cry,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”; military honors: Plato American Legion Post #641; honorary casket bearers: Richard’s grandchildren; casket bearers: Dan Rehmann, Michael Stockman, Bill Schrupp, James Stockman, Rick Stockman, Bill Braunworth.

Richard “Dick” Dietrich Stockman was born on April 2, 1943, in Glencoe, the son of Alfred and Annie (Olson) Stockman. Richard was baptized as an infant on May 2, 1943 by Rev. John Bunge, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 14, 1957 by Rev. W. A. Koch, both at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato. He received his education in Glencoe, and graduated with the Glencoe High School Class of 1961. Dick entered active military service in the United States Navy in 1961, and served his country in Nova Scotia. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1963. On Dec. 5, 1964, Dick was united in marriage to Marjorie “Margie” Schrupp by Rev. R. L. Reith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. Dick grew up on the family farm in rural Plato, where Dick and Marjorie made their home. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Todd, Tammy, Trisha and Tony. Dick and Marjorie shared over 48 years of marriage. Dick was a dairy farmer with Holstein cattle. He also drove truck for Stockman Transfer. He was a life-long member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato, where he served on the church council. Dick was also a member of the Plato American Legion Post #641. Dick enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing Sheephead and spending time at the lake. He also was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He cherished the time spent with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Dick passed away at the age of 69 years, 8 months and 28 days. Blessed be his memory.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Annie Stockman; father-in-law, Leslie Schrupp; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald Schmidt, Herbert Brelje, Barb Stockman, Marlys Stockman, Bonnie Stockman, Robert Schrupp, Timothy Schrupp.

Richard is survived by his: wife, Marjorie “Margie” Stockman of Plato; children, Todd Stockman and his wife, Sabrina, of Canby, Minn., Tammy Knutson and her husband, Hans, of Hutchinson, Trisha Olson and her husband, Curt, of St. Louis Park, Tony Stockman of Plato; grandchildren; Tabitha and Tiffini Stockman, Isabelle and Axel Knutson, Abigail and Lindsey Olson, Madelyn and Makaisa Stockman; mother-in-law, Evelyn Schrupp of Norwood Young America; siblings, Orlin Stockman of Plato, Howard Stockman and his wife, Mavis, of Green Isle, Loren Stockman and his wife, Barb, of Norwood Young America, Ruth Brelje of Parkers Prairie, Minn., Donna Schmidt of Glencoe, Harris Stockman of Pine River, Minn.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda Rehmann and her husband, Gary, of Lester Prairie, Jane Pieschke and her husband, Duane, of Norwood Young America, Cindy Noennig and her husband, Mark, of Sabin, Minn., Lori Manthey and her husband, Rod, of Norwood Young America, Bill Schrupp of Norwood Young America, Linda Schrupp of Waterford, Mich.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
