Gladys E. Mielke, age 88 of New Germany, died Friday Jan. 11, 2013, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at the St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with Rev. LeRoy LaPlant as officiant. Interment in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gladys E. Mielke was born the daughter of Otto and Emelia (Schaefer) Hoese on Dec. 10, 1924, in Watertown Township of Carver County. She was baptized on Jan. 11, 1925, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by Rev. F.W. Erthal. Gladys was confirmed in the faith on April 10, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by Rev. Elmer Schwandt. She graduated from the Watertown High School. On Sept. 27, 1945, Gladys was united in marriage with Roland E. Mielke at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by Rev. Elmer Schwandt.
When they were first married Gladys had worked for the bank in New Germany. She later was a cook at St. Mark Lutheran School and had also worked for Green Giant in Glencoe. In her later years Gladys volunteered at St. Mark Lutheran School with janitor work. Her church was very important to Gladys and she volunteered whenever possible. When she was longer able to attend regular worship, Gladys would listen to area church services on the radio.
Gladys was a hard worker all her life, working along side her husband in the fields and taking care of the farm animals. She always took advantage of the opportunity to be outside. Gladys cherished the time with her children and grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents Otto and Emelia Hoese; husband Roland Mielke; son Kendall Mielke; son-in-law Dick Jaeger; brothers Orvin Hoese, Rueben Hoese, Clifford Hoese; sister Dorothy Kutzke; parents-in-law William and Bertha Mielke.
Gladys is survived by her loving family daughters and son-in-law Shirley Jaeger of New Germany, Bonnie and Larry Finke of Winona; daughter-in-law and son-in-law Mary and Rev. Dennis McManus of New Germany; grandchildren and their spouses Amy and Jayson Johnson, Daniel Jaeger, Kay and Keith Traska, Aaron and Laurie Finke, Christopher and Christina Finke, Gina and Jon Holter, Holly Finke, Jacob Finke, Rachel and Mike Ford, Jonathan Mielke, Laura and Chris Hier, David Mielke, Joshua Mielke, Kristen Mielke; great grandchildren Evan Johnson, Grace Johnson, Stryker Traska, Peytra Traska, Zion Traska, Gabriel Finke, Gideon Finke, Sasha Holter, Bennett Ford and Ashley Ford; brother and sister-in-law James and Arleen Hoese of Mayer; sister and brother-in-law Mae and Stan Topel of Sterling Heights, MI; sister-in-law Lenora Hoese of Watertown; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Serving as casket bearers Daniel Jaeger, Aaron Finke, Christopher Finke, Jacob Finke, Jonathan Mielke, David Mielke and Joshua Mielke.
