Central’s junior high knowledge bowl teams complete season

KBowlCMYKCentral School’s Junior High Knowledge Bowl teams recently completed their season by participating in the South Central Educational Cooperative’s academic competition.

On Dec. 19, 48 teams from other southern Minnesota schools competed in the subregional meet at Mankato State University with two of Central’s four teams continuing on to the regional and final meet on Jan. 10.

This is Central’s 24th year participating in Junior High Knowledge Bowl. Students compete in teams of six students in written and oral rounds in this interdisciplinary event requiring quick recall and team work.

Questions for the rounds are taken from the average curriculum for grades 7-9. The season runs from October to early January.

Coached by Vicki Halliday-Schultz, teams consist of 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. Each meet students are mixed up among four teams so that they can learn team dynamics and develop strategies for competition.

This year’s members are seventh graders Nolan Braunwarth, Izzy Bursey, Reese Eichner, Kenny Feist, Nick Holliday, Nick Jensen, Emma Klaustermeier, Luke Lamberton, Judy Larson, Marian Medina, Alex Pederson, and Steven Schmeig.
Molly Miller and Emma Panning represent the eighth grade.

Ninth graders are Reed Carpenter, Benjamin Coffel, Joe Lemmer, Beth George, Karl Dettmann, Kayla Engelstad, Clare Wickenhauser, Taylor Gort, Aaron Klaustermeier, Ben Lagergren, and April Feist with Joe Simons as computer operator.

Parents Pam Larson and Jessica Klaustermeier  were extremely helpful and invaluable in helping out at the six meets this season.
