KC paper drive
PRESENT TO JAN. 20 — The Ascension Knights of Columbus are having a Paper Drive at the Ascension Church parking lot in NYA. Drop off times are from 7 a.m. until sunset.

Library storytime
TUESDAYS, JAN. 15 TO MARCH 26 — Family storytime for all ages, with a focus on children age 2 and up at 11 a.m. at the Norwood Young America Library (314 Elm Street 467-2665). Children, parents and their caregivers are invited to come and share 30 minutes of stories, music and movement that encourages the development of early literacy skills. No registration required.

St. John’s paper drive
FRIDAY, JAN. 18 TO SUNDAY, JAN. 20 — St. John’s Lutheran School is holding a paper drive. Help is available from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Library input meeting
SATURDAY, JAN. 19 — The Carver County Library needs public input on the direction the Library should take in planning for its services over the next five years. Anyone interested in having their voice heard should attend one of two sessions in the Chanhassen Library Wilder Room from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, or from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Waconia City Council Chambers on Jan. 19. Pancake brunch
SUNDAY, JAN. 20 — The Hamburg Lions are hosting a pancake brunch from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hamburg Community Hall. Serving pancakes, eggs, sausage, applesauce and beverages. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children 5-10 and free for those under age 5. Proceeds will benefit new flags, poles and brackets for the City of Hamburg.

Pancake breakfast
SUNDAY, JAN. 20 — Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia (601 2nd Street E) is hosting a pancake and French toast breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A freewill offering will be held, and proceeds will go to Birthright, a pregnancy support service that provides alternatives to abortion and care. All are welcome.

Annual banquet
THURSDAY, JAN. 24 — The NYA Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual banquet in the Oak Grove Senior Residence Community Room. Refreshments at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a presentation will follow at 7 p.m. Cost is $15 per person for chamber members and $20 for non-members. Chili and auctions
SUNDAY, JAN. 27 — St. John’s Lutheran School in NYA is hosting an all-you-can-eat chili meal and silent and live auctions. Chili serving: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Silent auction: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Live auction at 1 p.m. Tickets ware $7 for adults, $5 for children 5-10, and free for those age 4 and under.

Raider TD Club
SUNDAY, JAN. 27 — The Raider Touchdown Club will meet at 7 p.m. at Pizza Ranch in NYA. Anyone with an interest in Raider football is welcome to attend.

Pancake breakfast
SUNDAY, JAN. 27 — St. Bernard’s School in Cologne is hosting a Catholic Schools Week Pancake Breakfast. Serving times are from 8 a.m. until noon. Menu includes pancakes, french toast, sausage, apple sauce and beverage.  The breakfast is sponsored by the Ascension Knights of Columbus.

Soils 101 course
MONDAY, FEB. 4 — The University of Minnesota Extension in Carver, Hennepin, McLeod, and Wright counties are collaborating to offer a Soils 101 course at Crow River Coffee in Watertown. This course is an intensive, seven-hour class that provides a hands-on teaching environment for producers who want to learn more about the soils they farm. Class will start at 8 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. Since class sizes are limited, please register early to ensure availability.

Information meeting
MONDAY, FEB. 4 — Cologne Academy is hosting an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Come to learn how the Core Knowledge curriculum coupled with the character development program can best prepare your student for the 21st century. Annual meeting
THURSDAY, FEB. 7 — The third Annual Meeting of the Willkommen Heritage and Preservation Society will be held at the Heritage Center, located at 102 E Main St., NYA at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

NYA Lions steak fry
FRIDAY, FEB. 15 — The NYA Lions are hosting a steak from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Willkommen Memorial Park Pavilion in NYA. Meal includes steak, baked potato, salad and bread. Cost is $10. All proceeds will be donated locally.

Pancake breakfast
SUNDAY, MARCH 24 — The NYA Lions are hosting a pancake breakfast at the NYA Pavilion from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Meal includes sausage, scrambled eggs, applesauce and, of course, great pancakes (including the Lions’ much-demanded blueberry pancakes) with real homemade maple syrup. Cost is a freewill donation. All proceeds go to projects and/or donations in the community.
