The Mayer Lutheran dance team finished second in a Minnesota River Conference meet last Friday, Jan. 11, at Norwood Young America.
Belle Plaine captured top honors in the high kick division, followed by Mayer Lutheran, NYA, and Jordan. Crusader head coach Maryann Porter said the team’s kick performance had a few execution errors, and the Crusaders will continue to focus on eliminating them.
“Overall it was a great night of dancing and sportsmanship,” she said.
Belle Plaine also won the jazz portion of the evening, with Mayer Lutheran again finishing second. NYA was third.
“The girls danced really well and the changes we made to the routine helped improve our scores in all the main categories,” she said.
The Crusaders plan to work hard this week before the conference championships, in hopes of defending their conference title from last season.
The junior varsity jazz team also finished second to Belle Plaine.
The MRC championships are tonight, Jan. 17, at Mayer Lutheran High School, beginning at 7 p.m.
The Crusaders will host an invitational this Saturday, Jan. 19, that begins at 12 p.m.
