Wildcat gymnasts lead conference
After defeating Annandale last week, the Waconia gymnastics team is the only team still undefeated in the Wright County Conference. The two previously undefeated WCC teams faced off at Waconia on Jan. 8, with the Wildcats emerging as the victors 135.8-133.05.
Head coach Molly Oscarson was very happy with the Wildcat win over the Cardinals.
“We scored our highest of the season and continued our defeated record,” she said.
The night began on vault, where senior Alexanna Gluck finished second (9.1), freshman Ella Hommer was third (8.9), and senior Katie McMahon was fifth (8.825).
Gluck won on the next event, the uneven bars, with a score of 8.5. McMahon was third with a 7.95, and senior Mckensie Livermore was fourth with a 7.75.
On balance beam, Livermore achieved her highest beam score of the season and won the event with a 9.225.
“Mckensie nailed her routine,” Oscarson said.
Hommer was fourth on beam with a 8.375, followed by Gluck in fifth (8.275).
In the floor exercise, Gluck was first with an 8.95. Hommer, McMahon, and Livermore were 3-4-5 with scores of 8.675, 8.55, and 8.525, respectively.
The Wildcats captured four of the top five all around spots. Gluck was second with a total 34.825 points, followed by Livermore in third (34.300), Hommer in fourth (33.475), and McMahon in fifth (32.550).
The Wildcats are 4-1 this season, and will be at Glencoe-Silver Lake Jan. 18. They will host Orono and New London-Spicer Jan 24.
