Evangeline M. “Vangie” Schneider, age 83, of Waconia, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at St. Victoria Catholic Church (8228 Victoria Drive) in Victoria with Fr. Robert White as celebrant. Interment in the church cemetery. Visitation was 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Johnson Funeral Home (141 E. First St.), Waconia and Monday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Evangeline M. “Vangie” Schneider was born Nov. 2, 1929 in Cologne, the daughter of Peter and Magdalene (Vos) Meuleners. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne. After graduating from the Waconia High School, Vangie took training to be a nurse and had worked at the Nagel Hospital in Waconia. Vangie was united in marriage with Leo F. Schneider on Oct. 7, 1950 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne by Fr. Albert Heer. The couple made their home on the Schneider family farm until 1956 when they purchased a bar business in Victoria which they name “Leo’s”. They retired from their bar business in October of 1997. Vangie was a dedicated homemaker who cherished being a mother of nine children. She enjoyed cooking, embroidery, shopping, flower gardening and the outdoors. Her love for dancing never diminished. She was also very fond of her neighbor’s dog Morgan. Vangie liked to travel and she had vacationed with Leo to Hawaii over 30 times.
Vangie was a faithful church member at St. Victoria and St. Joseph’s in Waconia. She would bake for funerals and help whenever needed. Vangie was always interested in her grandchildren’s activities and would attend as many of their events as possible.
Vangie is preceded in death by her parents Peter and Magdalene Meuleners, husband Leo Schneider, daughter Peggy Kaufhold, sisters Lorraine and Bernie, brothers Kenneth, Leo and William.
Vangie is survived by her loving family: children and their spouses Bonnie and Dan Wagener of Waconia, Bruce and Mary Kehrer-Schneider of New London, Mary and Joel Roen of Webster, Wis., June and Paul Miller of Chaska, Lee and Jane Schneider of Eden Prairie, Pat and Jean Schneider of Jordan, Julie and Ron Kelzer of Mayer, Jo and James Fiebelkorn of Chaska; son-in-law Tim Kaufhold of Victoria; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Eleanor Meuleners of Cologne; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Harriet Meuleners of Cologne, George and Jean Schneider of Eden Prairie; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Serving as casket bearers grandsons Jason Wagener, Eric Wagener, Troy Wagener, David Wagener, Joe Schneider, Nathan Kelzer, Dennis Fiebelkorn, Andrew Fiebelkorn, Tim Kaufhold Jr.
Serving as honorary casket bearers granddaughters Becky Emerson, Jenilee Rowley, Angela Blackburn, Amy Palmateer, Teresa Borlaug, Maria Williams, Tracy Kelzer and Breanna Kaufhold.
