WMWDF competes at True Team Sections

The Watertown-Mayer/Waconia/Delano/Holy Family boys’ swimming and diving team was in action twice last week, losing a dual meet at Hopkins, 95-85, on Thursday, Jan. 17, and finishing in fifth place in the ultra-competitive, five-team Section 6AA True Team Section meet at Edina’s Art Downey Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 19.

In that True Team Section meet, which also includes Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Edina and Hopkins, the Royals scored 262 points. Eden Prairie was first with 914 points. The Royals had two top-10 finishes, including Tristan Gens, who took sixth place in diving with 332.25 points, and Zach Holman, who took ninth in the 200-yard Individual Medley with 2:08.71.

In the loss to Hopkins earlier in the week, the Royals picked up two individual wins and one relay win. Holman won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.04 and Gens won diving with a 230.9 points, winning the event by more than 46 points. The Royals also won the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the team of Holman, Shawn Wasser, Ben DeSutter and Jack Dalluge finishing in a time of 3:35.73.

Wasser added a pair of second-place finishes for the Royals. He finished the 50-yard freestyle in 23.29 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.93 seconds. Givon Kumal had a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.19, DeSutter had a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.78, and Holman was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.28.

DeSutter added a third-place finish in the 200-yard IM in 2:21.31. Brent Unowsky was third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:48.34, and Austin Gilbert was third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.6.

The Royals were also in action Tuesday at St. Cloud Apollo, and will return to the pool at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Orono.
