Gymnasts defeat G-SL

With a big win at Glencoe-Silver Lake on Jan. 18, the Waconia gymnasts continued their stellar season winning 132.925-113.0.

Despite missing senior captain Katie McMahon to illness, head coach Molly Oscarson had junior varsity gymnasts step up.

“It was nice to see some of our other girls step up and fill in the missing spot,” she said.

The Waconia regulars in seniors Alexanna Gluck and Mckensie Livermore, along with freshmen Ella Hommer and Abby Fahrenkamp, made quick work of the Panther gymnasts and swept nearly every event.

The ‘Cats captured first through fourth on the vault, headed by Gluck in first with a 9.1. Livermore was a close second at 9.0, followed by Hommer in third (8.85). Fahrenkamp tied for fourth with Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Becca Ebbers with a score of 8.7.

Gluck, Livermore, and Hommer went 1-2-3 on bars. Gluck scored 8.65, while Livermore was solid at 7.975 and Hommer at 7.325.

A sweep of the top beam scores also went to the Wildcats. Livermore scored an 8.95 for first place, while Gluck was second at 8.175. Fahrenkamp was third with a 7.95, followed by Hommer in fourth (7.8).

The floor exercise was the only event where G-SL took home top honors. Gluck finished second with an 8.8, while Hommer and Livermore tied for fourth (8.35).

Gluck and Livermore claimed the top two all around spots with scores of 34.725 and 34.275, respectively. Hommer was third at 32.325, and Fahrenkamp was fourth (31.55).
