Thom wins Clearwater’s geography bee

Carrie Thom, an eighth grader at Clearwater Middle School in Waconia, is the school’s Geography Bee Finalist. She became the district finalist by defeating nine other students from grades 5-8 on Dec. 9.
As the finalist, Thom recently completed the written portion, which has been sent to Washington D.C. She will find out in March whether she is one of the 100 top scorers in the state, which would make her eligible to compete in the state Geo Bee held on April 5.
State champions will take part in the national championship round in Washington D.C. on May 20-22.
