Library storytime
TUESDAYS TO MARCH 26 — Family storytime for all ages, with a focus on children age 2 and up at 11 a.m. at the Norwood Young America Library (314 Elm Street 467-2665). Children, parents and their caregivers are invited to come and share 30 minutes of stories, music and movement that encourages the development of early literacy skills. No registration required.

KC bingo
SUNDAY, FEB. 3 — The Knights of Columbus will be hosting bingo starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension Social Hall in Norwood Young America. Fourteen games of bingo will be played. Come have some fun and try to win some great prizes. Cost is $6 for one card, $10 for two cards. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

Join singing group
MONDAY, FEB. 4 — The Singing Friends Chorus started rehearsals for the spring concert season on Jan. 29. The Singing Friends are a 30-voice, fun-loving, all-ages SATB choir based in NYA. Tenors and basses are especially sought this season. No auditions are required to sing with the group. If you are interested in singing, attend an open rehearsal on Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church in NYA. For more information, call director Karen de Boer at (320) 864-2742.

Kindergarten night
MONDAY, FEB. 4 — St. John’s Lutheran Kindergarten Information and Registration Night is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at St. John’s School. Parents of children that will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2013 are invited and encouraged to attend. Activities are planned for the prospective kindergartners.

Soils 101 course
MONDAY, FEB. 4 — The University of Minnesota Extension in Carver, Hennepin, McLeod, and Wright counties are collaborating to offer a Soils 101 course at Crow River Coffee in Watertown. This course is an intensive, seven-hour class that provides a hands-on teaching environment for producers who want to learn more about the soils they farm. Class will start at 8 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. Since class sizes are limited, please register early to ensure availability.

Information meeting
MONDAY, FEB. 4 — Cologne Academy is hosting an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Come to learn how the Core Knowledge curriculum coupled with the character development program can best prepare your student for the 21st century. Legion Aux. meeting
MONDAY, FEB. 4 — The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting. This will be the organization’s annual Valentine Party with the Peace Villa and Harbor residents. The Valentine Party will begin at 6 p.m. in the Peace Villa Social Room. Following the party the Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting, all are invited to attend. Annual meeting
THURSDAY, FEB. 7 — The third Annual Meeting of the Willkommen Heritage and Preservation Society will be held at the Heritage Center, located at 102 E Main St., NYA at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Airing of the Quilts
SATURDAY, FEB. 9 — St. John’s Lutheran Churchv in Plato will host an “Airing of the Quilts” from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Diane Alsleben will be the featured speaker at 1:30 p.m. Dessert and beverages will be available for a free will offering. Bake sale items will also be available. All are invited to come and view the beautiful array of quilts and enjoy fellowship with other quilt enthusiasts.

Library book sale
THURSDAY, FEB. 14 TO SATURDAY, FEB. 16 — The Friends of the NYA Library will hold their annual February booksale during library hours. Many great books, DVDs and more are on sale for great prices. All proceeds are used by the Friends of the Library to enhance library service in Norwood Young America. Library hours during the sale are 1-7 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, contact the NYA Library at 467-2665.

NYA Lions steak fry
FRIDAY, FEB. 15 — The NYA Lions are hosting a steak from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Willkommen Memorial Park Pavilion in NYA. Meal includes steak, baked potato, salad and bread. Cost is $15. All proceeds will be donated locally.

Dairy Expo
MONDAY, FEB. 18 — The 2013 Carver County/University of Minnesota Dairy Expo will be held at Central High School in NYA beginning at 9 a.m. with registration and booth browsing and educational sessions starting at 10:30 a.m. The program features a large trade show with nearly 50 exhibitors. The cost is $10 per person and includes continental breakfast, entry to all sessions, trade show, lunch and proceedings.

CCLCCA training
TUESDAY, FEB. 19 — Carver County Licensed Family Child Care Association will be hosting its monthly training. Come and learn about developing healthy eating habits for children. “LANA,” Learning and Nutrition for Preschoolers, will be held at the Kindergarten Center in Jonathan from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Certificates will be issued for two hours of training. The cost is free to members, others needing a certificate will need to pay $20. Silent auction, dinner
SATURDAY, MARCH 16 — Emanuel Lutheran School in Hamburg is hosting a silent auction and dinner with choice of smoked pork chops or turkey starting at 5 p.m. Hundreds of items available, including automotive, dining, entertainment, tools, sporting goods, home and garden and much more. Live auction starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at State Bank of Hamburg, Chameleon Salon and at the school.

Pancake breakfast
SUNDAY, MARCH 24 — The NYA Lions are hosting a pancake breakfast at the NYA Pavilion from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Meal includes sausage, scrambled eggs, applesauce and, of course, great pancakes (including the Lions’ much-demanded blueberry pancakes) with real homemade maple syrup. Cost is a freewill donation. All proceeds go to projects and/or donations in the community.
