In their final meet of the regular season, the Waconia Lakettes dance team competed at Mounds View on Jan. 26, in what head coach Amy Segner called a fun competition.
“The varsity team competed both of their routines with a lot of energy and excitement,” she said.
The Lakettes have battled many injuries and illnesses in the last few weeks, and have had to make significant formation changes, especially to the high kick routine.
At Mounds View, the Lakettes debuted their new team of 18 high kick dancers and finished seventh of 12 teams. Section opponent Marshall finished well ahead of the Wildcats, but Segner said the Waconia team performed without any major mistakes or issues.
The jazz team, modified less than the high kick, finished eighth of 11 teams at the meet, behind both Marshall and Holy Family.
Segner said she is proud of the Waconia dancers.
“This team [has] not only had a lot of road blocks on the dance floor but off the dance floor too,” she said. “The coaches are so proud of how they have handled the ups and downs of this season.”
Sections are this Saturday, Feb. 2 at Waconia High School. Competition begins at 12 p.m. The top three teams in each category will advance to the state competition on Feb. 15-16. If they qualify, this would be the Lakettes fourth consecutive state appearance.
