Glendora Elma Katherine Beneke, age 92, of Norwood Young America, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Victoria. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, with interment following at the church cemetery. Clergy officiating: Pastor Daniel Schnabel; organist: Sandy Kroells; congregational hymns: “I Am But A Stranger Here,” “Amazing Grace,” “Nearer My God To Thee,” “On Eagle’s Wings”; casket bearers: Jon Ittel, Paul Ittel, Mark Ittel, John Stuewe, David Butterfass, Dean Willemsen.
Glendora Elma Katherine Beneke was born on Feb. 2, 1920, in Young America Township, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Schneewind) Maack. Glendora was baptized on Feb. 29, 1920, by Rev. Schmidt and was later confirmed in her faith on March 25, 1934, by Rev. O. Vriesen, both at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg. She received her education at District #41 Country School in Young America Township. On Sept. 27, 1947, Glendora was united in marriage to Walter E. Beneke by Rev. O. Vriesen at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg. Glendora and Walter made their home on a farm near Hamburg, until 1965 when a tornado demolished the farm and then they moved to Norwood Young America. Walter passed away on Sept. 26, 1990, one day before the couple’s 43rd wedding anniversary. In addition to being a loving homemaker and wife, Glendora helped on the farm. She also did housekeeping work for various families, was a dental assistant for Dr. McCarthy in Norwood Young America and worked at Hillcrest Café in Norwood Young America. For the past eight years Glendora lived at The Lighthouse in Waconia. She was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg. Glendora enjoyed baking, crocheting, embroidering, flowers and cardinals. She also enjoyed all animals, especially cats, dogs and Holstein cows. Glendora loved to eat out with her sisters and nieces. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Glendora passed away at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 19 days. Blessed be her memory.
Glendora is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna Maack; husband, Walter Beneke; siblings: Wilbert Maack; Marcella (Charles) Wirtz; Luanna (George) Ittel; Elvera (Charlie) Ittel; nephew, Mike Wirtz.
Glendora is survived by her nieces and nephews: Susan Manteuffel and husband, Wayne, of Cologne, Marilyn Schmidt and husband, Roger, of Plato, Jon Ittel and wife, Lori, of Norwood Young America, Linda Butterfass and husband, David, of Maple Plain, Jane Willemsen and husband, Dean, of Norwood Young America, Julie Tatge and husband, Wayne, of Norwood Young America, Paul Ittel and wife, Christy, of Plato, Mark Ittel and wife, Sandy, of Glencoe, Lynn Wroge and husband, Wallace, of Hamburg, Mary Stuewe and husband, John, of Chaska; Walter’s nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
