Girls’ hockey team pushes winning streak to 6 games

The Mound Westonka High School girls hockey team pushed their winning streak to six games before losing to nonconference opponent North Wright County.

The White Hawks hosted St. Louis Park High School in a Jan. 24 home game that resulted in a 7-0 win for MWHS.

The White Hawks had two goals from Liz Schepers, and Grace Holmen, Lana Fitz, Abby Brustad, Jessica Nkhata and Taylor Moynagh each scored a goal as well in the game. The White Hawks also enjoyed a shutout victory from Emma Polusny — her fifth on the season.

The White Hawks then played conference opponent Hutchinson High School on Saturday, Jan. 26, coming away with a 5-3 victory.

Schepers scored two goals for the White Hawks, and Nkhata, Mackenzie Kratch and Jori Mazurek each scored goals as well.

The White Hawks then played AA opponent North Wright County on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in Monticello, resulting in a 7-1 loss. Morgen Niccum scored the lone goal for MWHS.

The White Hawks are scheduled to end their regular season at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at home against Holy Family/Waconia. Head Coach Chris Erickson said the team is hoping to receive the number one seed in their section.
