The Watertown-Mayer/Waconia/Delano/Holy Family boys’ swimming and diving team was defeated by Chaska/Chanhassen 120-66 on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
The Royals won two events during the home dual meet at Watertown-Mayer High School. Shawn Wasser won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.45 seconds and Tristan Gens won the diving competition with 168.95 points. The Royals also won the 200-yard freestyle relay when Zach Holman, Tylor Franklin, Kurt Gilbertson and Wasser teamed up to finish in 1:33.92.
The Royals also had three second-place finishes. Daniel Clark scored 151.35 points in diving to make it a 1-2 finish for the Royals in that event, while the 200-yard medley relay team of Brent Unowsky, Gilbertson, Ben DeSutter and Jack Dalluge teamed up to finish in 1:54.34. Holman also was second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.18 seconds.
A number of Royals also earned third-place finishes in individual events. In the 200-yard freestyle, Holman was third with a time of 1:54.72. DeSutter was third in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.47 and Gilbertson was third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.19 seconds. DeSutter was third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.20, and in the 100-yard backstroke, Franklin finished third with a time of 1:05.44.
The Royals were also in action Tuesday, when they hosted Princeton. The Royals will be back in the pool on Saturday, Feb. 9, for the Wright County Conference tournament at Hutchinson beginning at 10 a.m.
