The Mayer Lutheran dance team fared well at its final meet of the regular season. Competing at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Jan. 31, the Crusaders won the varsity jazz competition, edging out conference and section rival Norwood Young America for top honors.

“The girls did an outstanding job placing first,” said Crusader head coach Maryann Porter.

Mayer Lutheran finished second in high kick to host ACGC, while NYA was fifth of the six teams.

“We made some improvements to our routines earlier in the week and the girls did a fantastic job executing them,” Porter said. “It was a great way to end our regular season as we prepare for our trip up to Aitkin for sections.”

The Section 2A competition is Feb. 9 at Aitkin, where the Crusaders will see 16 other Class A teams including Aitkin, Duluth Marshall, Brooklyn Center, PACT Charter, Richfield, and New Ulm Cathedral, as well as NYA Central.
