Apparent suicide occurs at park reserve

A St. Bonifacius man died due to an apparent suicide in the Carver Park Reserve in Victoria on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

According to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, a male called the dispatch center at about 1:02 p.m. and informed the 9-1-1 operator that he intended to kill himself. He indicated that he was located on the east side of the park reserve.

Deputies responded, arriving within minutes of the call, and found Eric Robert Hoefert of St. Bonifacius seated in a pickup that was parked on the side of the road.

Hoefert was obviously dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Sheriff’s Office reported that there were no witnesses and there was no evidence of any other person in or around the area, as the truck had stopped in snow and there were no footprints or other foot or tire tracks around the vehicle.

Editor’s note: The NYA Times normally does not report about suicides unless the suicide involves a public official or is done in a public place.
