Waconia Lions announce kids’ program design contest
Excitement is building for the Waconia Veterans Weekend, which will be held July 12-14, 2013.
The Waconia Lions Club is organizing the effort, which will feature the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, a parade honoring local veterans, a community picnic, and a community dance.
As one might imagine, planning is well underway and the Lions are giving area children a unique opportunity to be part of the special weekend.
The Lions invite all school age children (age 8-18) to compete in a contest to design the cover of the program that will be used for the games featuring the Wounded Warriors. The child who designs the winning entry will serve as the bat boy or bat girl for the celebrity softball game featuring media personalities and sports figures against the Wounded Warriors that will be played at Brook Peterson Park in Waconia on Friday, July 12.
Entries should incorporate the logo of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team as well as the logo of the Lions and the city of Waconia, and the U.S. flag. Children are also encouraged to consider using military branch logos — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard — but if one branch is used, all should be used.
Children should create their entries on an 8-1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. The child’s name and parental contact information should be included on the back of each entry. Completed entries should be dropped off at the Waconia Patriot office (8 Elm Street S) by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
