Missionary James May coming to Zion

The Rev. James May, missionary from Africa, will be coming to Zion. He will arrive Wednesday, Feb. 20, and will be staying with Pastor Woodford. Thursday, he will lead chapel at LHS at 10 a.m. Friday, he will lead an assembly at Zion grade school at 9 a.m. At noon, there will be a luncheon open to all area congregations to hear about his mission work.

On Sunday, he will preach and teach bible class at Zion. A door offering will be received for his ministry. You can read more about his family, along with his mission and ministry, on Facebook under “Lutherans in Africa.”

Zion School News

Zion Lutheran School of Mayer will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and silent Auction on Sunday, Feb. 24. Serving time will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the school gym, which is located on Blue Jay Avenue. Dinner includes spaghetti with meat or no-meat sauce, breadsticks and salad. The dinner is a free will donation. The profits from this event will go to the seventh and eighth grades to take an educational trip to Washington, D.C.

Spelling Bee

There will be a spelling bee at Zion for all students on Friday, March 8. Grades 1-4 will take part at 9 a.m. Grades 5-8 will take part at 12:45 p.m.

Zion Lenten services

Worship services are at 7 p.m. each of the following Wednesdays:

Feb. 20: “The Wound of Betrayal,” Matthew 26:20-25

Feb. 27: “The Wound of Apathy,” Matthew” 26:36-45

March 6: “The Wound of Denial,” Matthew 26:69-75

March 13: “The Wound of Mockery,” Matthew 27: 27-31

March 20: “The Wound of Abandonment,” Matthew 27:45-48

Dates of Importance

Thursday, Feb. 21 is the registration night for the upcoming Minnesota Firearms Safety Education Program at the Mayer Community Center at 7 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 22, there will be garbage pickup only this week. Have bins curbside by 7 a.m.

Members of the city council will have a meeting on Monday, Feb. 25, starting at 6:30 p.m.
