2-21-13 Youth sports highlights
The Waconia PeeWee B1 boys’ hockey team was treated to a special guest at practice last week. Retired Minnesota player Wes Walz, who played seven seasons with the Wild, stopped by to attend and assist with practice on and off the ice. The team got time in the lockerroom with Walz as they all laced up together and then ran through drills on the ice that are currently used by the Wild. Walz then divided the boys and coaches for a little four-on-four scrimmage. The Waconia fifth grade boys’ basketball team played in the Buffalo Classic the weekend of Feb. 8-10. The team was 3-0 in the tournament and took home second place, as determined by points allowed. The Waconia boys’ sixth grade basketball team won the championship at Prior Lake last weekend.
