Library bookstore

A new bookstore is now open in the northeast corner of the Waconia Library. Most hardcover books are $1 and paperbacks are $.50. If you love vintage or collectible books, there is a special cabinet just for you. Run by the Friends of the Library. All proceeds benefit the library. Open during regular library hours. Easter Basket drive

Local area churches have partnered with the Waconia United Food Shelf to bring Easter Baskets to the children of families who utilize the food shelf on a monthly basis. Items that need to be donated are: Cash, Easter Candy and small toys and prizes — toys for boys in particular need. Donations can be left at area churches in the collection baskets provided. Cash donations may be sent to Faith Lutheran Church and earmarked for the Easter Basket Project. Donations accepted through March 15.

Moms in Prayer

THURSDAY, FEB. 28 – Moms and grandmothers are invited to an informational coffee to learn more about Moms in Prayer International, a Christian ministry where women come together to pray for children and schools. The introductory meeting will be held Thursday, Feb 21 & 28, from 8 to 9 a.m. at 1236 Kinder Drive, Waconia. Moms in Prayer, formerly Moms In Touch, is an interdenominational, nonprofit ministry with groups of moms meeting to pray for children and schools in every state in the USA and in 130+ countries around the world. ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

Early Childhood screen.

FEB. 28 & MARCH 1 – Early Childhood Screening is a free service offered by District 110 staff that will check a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age is between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years. Screening will take place from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 and from 8:15 .m. to 2:45 p.m. on Friday, March 1 at the Early Childhood Family Center, 520 Industrial Blvd. Info: 442-0613.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1 – The Waconia Knights of Columbus Fish Fry will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Center in Waconia every Friday from Feb. 15 to March 22. Adults: $10, children ages 5-12: $4, children under 5 eat free. Take out available.

Ascension KC fish fry

FRIDAY, MARCH 1 – The Ascension Knights of Columbus are hosting their annual fish fry at Ascension Church Social Hall in NYA from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Serving Alaskan Pollack, au gratin potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, beverages and dessert. Adults and takeouts: $10.50, kids 6-12: $5, and kids under 5: free. Advance tickets: $9, available from Lano Equipment, KleinBank in NYA and Citizens State Bank in NYA.

Diabetes fundraiser

SATURDAY, MARCH 2 – A juvenile diabetes fundraiser will be held at the Blue Note Ballroom in Winsted (320 3rd Street S) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shop craft and business vendors, take Easter pictures, enjoy a kids’ carnival and live music, take a massage, or participate in a silent auction and bake sale. Tim Blotz of Fox 9 News will be a guest speaker. All proceeds go to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

St. Boniface breakfast

SUNDAY, MARCH 3 – A Pancake, Waffles & Sausage Breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Church of  St. Boniface School Gym (8801 Wildwood Ave., St. Bonifacius). Free will offering. Co-sponsored by the St. Boniface CCW & Fr. Wohlfohrt Council #12029 Knights of Columbus.

Waffle Brunch

SUNDAY, MARCH 3 – All are invited to attend the annual Trinity Lutheran Church & School (Waconia) Waffle Brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The all-you-can-eat Waffle Brunch, held in the Fellowship Hall, features Dad’s Belgian Waffles. Tickets available at the door (adults $9, seniors $7, youth ages 6-12 $6 and age 5 and under free).

SUNDAY, MARCH 3 – Waconia Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. at Waconia High School for games, food and an encouraging message from Zac Bush, former Bethel hockey player and current Student Ministries Associate at Westwood Community Church.

SUNDAY, MARCH 10 – St. Joseph Catholic United Council members are invited to a Ham Breakfast in The Parish Center and 9:15 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church. All 50 year members will be acknowledged and honored for their service. A short meeting will follow.

St. John’s fundraiser

SUNDAY, MARCH 17 – The youth group at St. John’s Lutheran (300 4th St. E, Chaska) will host an informal Pampered Chef, Norwex and Tupperware party / fundraiser from noon to 3 p.m. Proceeds will be used to help send the youth group to the National Youth Gathering in San Antonio, Texas, in July.
