State is facing threat to marriage and family

 To the editor:

I believe that God created the Institution of marriage with one man and one woman. It all began in the Garden of Eden. In Genesis, we read of the creation of male and female for the procreation of children — God’s design for family. God’s design of marriage is not only good for children, and essential for society’s survival. As important as these things are, God designed marriage for something even more important.

Marriage foreshadows the covenant relationship between God and His people, as a picture of the Gospel. In Ephesians 5:22-32, we read of Christ the Bridegroom and His bride, the Church. So, when we uphold God’s design for marriage, we are also proclaiming the Gospel message of Christ, the Redeemer of our sinful world.

Our Minnesota Legislature has introduced a bill to legalize same-sex marriage. I believe we are facing the greatest threat to marriage and family. I encourage my fellow Minnesotans to stand firm in defense of marriage as God designed it.

We need to return to God’s Word where our Lord teaches us that homosexuality is a sinful distortion of his desire that one man and one woman live together in marriage as husband and wife.

See Leviticus 18:22-24 and 20:13. Also, Romans 1:26-27 and Corinthians 6:9-10. We also need to proclaim the good news that there is forgiveness through Christ, for all who repent and ask God for forgiveness. We need to encourage our pastors to proclaim this message. We need to gather our families around the Word of God teaching them right from wrong. We need to pray for good government and good leaders in our land, that our democracy will be preserved. Above all, speak lovingly yet clearly about this issue of homosexuality.

This week, Thursday, March 7, we can join the Minnesota March for Marriage at our state capital in St. Paul at 2 p.m. The rally begins at 2:30 p.m. on the capitol steps.
