Clearwater staff members Leah Pierce, Christian Gilbert, Brian Honkomp and Audra Lehrke spent the night on the roof of the school on Feb. 28 to reward students for surpassing their Pennies for Patients fundraising goal.

In conjunction with the school’s Pennies for Patients fundraiser, four staff members from Clearwater Middle School in Waconia recently spent the night on the roof of the school.

Counselor Leah Pierce, geography teacher Christian Gilbert, science teacher Brian Honkomp and physical education teacher Audra Lehrke agreed to spend a night on the roof if students reached the school-wide goal of raising at least $13,000 in the school’s Pennies for Patients fundraiser.

The students surpassed the goal by raising more than $15,000 for the fundraiser.

The quartet started their night on the roof at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28. With the assistance of the Waconia Fire Department, they exited the north end of the roof at approximately 7:55 a.m. on Friday, March 1.

The Pennies for Patients fundraiser benefits people — including several Waconia students directly — who have Leukemia and Lymphoma.
