W-M Community Ed to host third annual Super Saturday

Watertown-Community Education will be holding its third annual Super Saturday at the Watertown-Mayer Elementary School on Saturday, March 16.

The event is designed as a seminar for students in grades K-6, and offers a morning of hands on learning. Children select one class workshop for each of the three sessions, which each session lasting one hour. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

Students do not have to register for all three sessions, though that is an option. Students can register for one, two or all three sessions. Each workshop is $8.

Listed below are descriptions of each of the seven classes that are available. For some of the classes, age groups are split up, with certain grades required to attend certain sessions.


Young Rembrandt’s Crazy Cartooning

Tickle your funny bone as you share big laughs with humorous Young Rembrandts cartoons. Through cartooning, students learn how to exaggerate facial features and expressions as they draw humorous situations. (Grades K-6)


Kung Fu – Wu Shu

Not just a punching, kicking, self defense class. Kung Fu teaches awareness of self and surrounding and improves self esteem and confidence. Join a fu, non-competitive, full participation class that focuses on helping students develop skills for a healthy mind and body. This is an introduction to a skill building progressive training program for beginners through Black Belt offered through the Watertown Public Schools Community Education. Come and experience the lifelong benefits of Kung Fu, the Chinese art of self-defense and fitness.  (Grades K-6)


Charming Beaded Bracelets

Become a jewelry designer and create your own beaded bracelet by arranging a variety of different kinds of beads, add baubles and charms and accent ribbons for a unique, one-of-a-kind bracelet each student will leave class with. (Grades K-6)


Theatre 101

Acting, Stage Movement, Projection and Behind the Scenes. Never been on stage before? Don’t know the house from a win? Or have you ever wondered why it’s called “down stage”? come learn the basics of theatre. We will cover the parts of the stage, stage directions, and the people who make up a production. Great for beginners, a refresher course for the veterans, and everyone in between. Learn basic acting tips. All experience levels welcome. (Grades K-6)


Easy, Tasty Snacks

Bring your friends along and join us for some fun with cooking up concoctions. We will be making a variety of simple snacks and recipes will be handed out so you can make them at home. Come hungry to create some fun snacks. We will be making Shamrock Shakes, S’mores, Trail Mix and St. Patrick’s Day Pretzels. Yum! Please let us know of any food allergies when registering. (Separate sessions for K-2, 3-4, 5-6)


Jeff Shults Soccer Training

Enjoy learning and playing soccer! Age appropriate skills will be taught in a fun, positive way. Great opportunity to be introduced to the game of soccer. Those who played soccer before will enjoy once again playing the game they love. (Separate sessions for K-1, 2-3, and 4-6)


Make Your Own T-Shirt

Design and create your own T-shirt in this class. A variety of art media and painting techniques will be available to create your masterpiece. Bring your friends and get ready to let your creativity soar. T-shirts will be provided. Please provide size of shirt needed on registration. (Separate sessions for K-2, 3-5, 4-6).
