Library bookstore

A new bookstore is now open in the northeast corner of the Waconia Library. Most hardcover books are $1 and paperbacks are $.50. If you love vintage or collectible books, there is a special cabinet just for you. Run by the Friends of the Library. All proceeds benefit the library.    Open during regular library hours. Easter Basket drive

Local area churches have partnered with the Waconia United Food Shelf to bring Easter Baskets to the children of families who utilize the food shelf on a monthly basis. Items that need to be donated are: Cash, Easter Candy and small toys and prizes — toys for boys in particular need. Donations can be left at area churches in the collection baskets provided. Cash donations may be sent to Faith Lutheran Church and earmarked for the Easter Basket Project. Donations accepted through March 15.

Waconia Swim Club

Softener Salt Sale
The Waconia wrestling and baseball teams have kicked off their annual spring water softener salt sale. District 110 residents can order salt and have it delivered to their homes on Saturday, April 27. Three types of softener salt are available, including coarse, pellet and iron. Waconia KC fish fry

FRIDAY, MARCH 15 – The Waconia Knights of Columbus Fish Fry will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Center in Waconia every Friday from Feb. 15 to March 22. Adults: $10, children ages 5-12: $4, children under 5 eat free. Take out available.

Pet adoption event

SATURDAY, MARCH 16 – Carver Scott Humane Society volunteers will hold a pet adoption from noon to 3 p.m. at PETCO in Eden Prairie. Cats, dogs available. Adoption fees are $175+ for cats and $200+ for dogs. Info: (952) 368-3553 or www.carverscotths.org.

Pork roast, kraut dinner

SATURDAY, MARCH 16 – A Pork Roast and Kraut Dinner will be held at American Legion Post 150 (233 Olive Street) in Waconia from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal includes meat, potato, kraut or vegetable. Cost: $8.

Prep school open house

SATURDAY, MARCH 16 – Alexander Prep School is a new private prep school opening this fall at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska. JJ Vold, the Start-up Director of the school, will hold an open house from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Waconia Library to answer questions from prospective students and parents. Wood Duck Box day

SATURDAY, MARCH 16 – The 14th annual Youth Wood Duck Box Building Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burns Excavating Shop, 3470 CR 21 in Mayer. SUNDAY, MARCH 17 – A Chow Mein Dinner will be held at the Waconia VFW Auxillary 5462 from 4 to 7 p.m. or until gone. Adults: $8, children under 12: $4. Located at VFW Post Club Room, 125 West 1st St., Waconia.

St. John’s fundraiser

SUNDAY, MARCH 17 – The youth group at St. John’s Lutheran (300 4th St. E, Chaska) will host an informal Pampered Chef, Norwex and Tupperware party / fundraiser from noon to 3 p.m. Proceeds will be used to help send the youth group to the National Youth Gathering in San Antonio, Texas, in July.

Bunny Bingo

Challenge Choir

SUNDAY, MARCH 17 – Oakwood Community Church will host the Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge Choir in a free performance at Waconia High School. The choir will perform at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. services.

WHS prom fundraiser

MONDAY, MARCH 18 – The Waconia High School Prom Committee will hold a fundraiser from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at Pizza Ranch in Waconia.  WHS students and parents would love to serve you and appreciate your contributions toward their prom.

Dist. 47 DFL meeting

MONDAY, MARCH 18 – The monthly meeting of the Senate District 47 DFL will be held at 7 p.m. at the Victoria Fire Station (80th St., south side of Hwy 5). Meeting room directly accessible from rear parking lot.

Gardening class

MONDAY, MARCH 18 – Carver-Scott Master Gardeners will hold a free gardening class at the Waconia Library at 6:30 p.m. Topic: Make Your Yard Songbird Friendly.

Caregiver Support Group
MONDAY, MARCH 18 – Encore’s Carver County Adult Day Services Program and Emerald Crest Assisted Living Memory Care are partnering to provide a Caregiver Support Group to address the issues of caring for the aging. This is a great opportunity to meet and talk with other caregivers and local senior professionals to gain insight, resources and support! Support Group meets from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Encore Adult Day Program located across from the museum in Waconia. Info: 442-7660.

Sons of Norway

TUESDAY, MARCH 19 – SONS OF NORWAY – Scandia Lodge – Waconia will meet at 6 p.m. at Island View Golf Club in Waconia. Special guest: Steve Grinna of the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah, Iowa will reflect on his Norwegian-American ancestry and speak on the artifacts, art works, current and upcoming 2013 exhibits, classes, tours to Norway and special events. Ice Out 2013

FRIDAY, MARCH 22 – The Waconia Hockey Association hosts Ice Out 2013: Vegas Returns at the Waconia Ice Arena from 6 p.m. to midnight. Features casino-style gambling tables with great prize raffles, wine and beer tastings, a silent and live auction, and music. Proceeds benefit WHA, WHA Arena Fund. Early Childhood screen.

FRIDAY, MARCH 22 – Early Childhood Screening is a free service offered by District 110 staff that will check a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age is between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years. Screening will take place from 8:15 .m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Early Childhood Family Center, 520 Industrial Blvd. Info: 442-0613.
