Writer asks, do we need more gun control?
To the editor:
I don’t think we need any more gun control laws. There are plenty already. The laws we have now are largely unenforced. Does anyone honestly think that the criminal element is going to obey the new laws when they’ve been ignoring the existing laws? The only people who would obey new gun control laws are the law-abiding citizens who are not the problem in the first place.
The Second Amendment is not only there for the citizen to protect the government but also for the citizen to protect himself from the government. The Second Amendment is one of the rights that I, as Vietnam veteran, fought for. I know that not every person should have a gun and there are already laws covering that.
Not every person should have a car either. Should we illegalize cars because some people drive drunk in them? Maybe along the same line of thinking, we should only allow the purchase of six packs, and this would stop drunk driving, like limiting magazines to 10 rounds would stop mass shootings.
We need some common sense. We need to make people responsible for their actions and not pile on useless and unneeded laws on an already overburdened justice system.
Do you want the people who can’t make a decision on nearly anthing to make these laws and then exempt themselves from them, like they do all the other shoddy legislation they’ve passed over the years? I’m tired of it!
Everyone should take a long hard look at all the facts before they jump on the gun control bandwagon. Just my humble opinion.
