Fire track third, fifth at first meet

While the other spring teams are still waiting to get outside, the Holy Family track and field team kicked off the 2013 season with a Wright County indoor meet on April 1, hosted by St. Michael-Albertville.

The Fire girls’ finished third of five teams with 41.33 points, trailing first place Hutchinson (57.33) and runner up Waconia (57).

Sophomore Claire Oberle won the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes, while teammate Molly Eastman won the 800-yard run. Freshman Maria Eastman won the 1600-meter run in 5:46.90. Sophomore jumper Erin Brown won the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet, 3.50 inches, breaking her own school record set last season by over a foot.

Holy Family’s boys’ team won three events and finished fifth  of five teams with 24 points. Hutchinson (76.08) won the meet, followed by Waconia (67.17), Orono (29), and Delano (26.75).

Sophomore Chazz Johnson won the 55-meter dash in 6.50 seconds; he also won the long jump with a personal best 22-11.50, breaking his own school record from 2012. Senior Tom Green dominated the shot put, winning by over four feet with a throw of 46-08.50.
