Coach: Jerry Jensen

Ast: Gary Loontjer, Colton Sicheneder

Conf: MRC Section: 4A

2012 finish: Last season, the Crusaders had a handful of top ten finishes as various meets and finished fourth overall in the conference. As a team, the Crusaders were fourth at Shadow Brooke,\, tied for third at Glencoe-Silver Lake, and were sixth on day one of sections.

At the section tournament, LHS advanced four golfers to day two including Mike Vigil (2nd, day one), Jared Scrimgeour (11th), Andrew Wolf, and Zittergruen.

Key losses: The Crusaders graduated two seniors last year in Isaac Snow and Marcus Sturmfels. Also missing from this year’s lineup is Mike Vigil.

Key returners: With only three golfers not returning for 2013, the Crusaders have a host of experience coming back in Scrimgeour, Zittergruen, Wolf, and junior Chad Anenson.

“Otherwise, it’s pretty much the same group,” Jensen said.

The rest of the roster is still being formed, according to Jensen, as the Crusaders have yet to actually practice outside due to the weather.

Teams to beat: Defending MRC champion Norwood Young America, as well as Jordan, boasted a strong team last season and are expected to also be challenges this year.

Goals: New this season to boys’ golf is the Inter-Conference Cup, which will be contested four between the top four teams of the Minnesota River Conference, as well as the top four teams of the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association. Jensen hopes LHS can finish in the top four MRC teams to make the qualifying meet for the cup.

Girls’ team: After disbanding last season due to a lack of interest, LHS will have a girls’ golf team in 2013. The team has five members, including Gabby Flatebo, Faith Schug, Antonia Herz, Shelby Sicheneder, and Maggie Knoll (Lester Prairie). The Crusaders will play a light schedule at the junior varsity level.

“We’re hoping they get to learn the game and develop the skills,” Jensen said.

The boys are scheduled to kick off the season at Shattuck-St. Mary’s  April 12.
