Marjorie “Margie” Lenz, age 85 of Watertown, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Elim Home in Watertown. The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday April 6, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (505 Westminster Ave.) in Watertown with Rev. Paul Krentz as officiant. Interment in the Watertown Public Cemetery. Visitation was held at the church Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Lenz was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Waconia, the daughter of Edwin H. and Ella E. (Gatz) Burandt. She was baptized on Oct. 17, 1927, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by Rev. William Schneider. Margie was confirmed in the faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia on April 6, 1941, by Rev. William Schneider. On Jan. 28, 1945, Margie was united in marriage with Lester Lenz at Trinity Lutheran by Rev. Robert Heyne. The couple made their home in Watertown.
Margie worked for the St. Paul’s Lutheran School as a cook for six years and for the Watertown High School for 26 years and 5 years at Westwood Place in Watertown. She enjoyed over 30 years at the cabin up north. Margie was very proud of her large garden and shared the “fruits of her labor” with many. Margie also enjoyed quilting. She was a charter member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, active in its Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and had volunteered whenever needed. Margie cherished the time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband Lester Lenz; parents Edwin and Ella Burandt; daughter-in-law Dee A. Lenz; father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Dora Lenz; brothers Dennis Burandt and Melvin Burandt; sister Pearl Menden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ray Dummer, Margaret Burandt, Harvey Tesch, Irvin Menden, Ardis Burandt, Keith Saunders, Carol Lenz and Loren Lenz.
Margie is survived by her loving family: sons and daughter-in-law Roger and Barb Lenz of Webster City, IA, Fred Lenz of Watertown; grandchildren Dan Lenz, Cara Lenz, Ryan and Becky Lenz, Liza and Scott Torborg; great grandchildren Elliana, Roen ,Harlow ,Olivia, Rye, Grace, Marta and Charlie; siblings and their spouses Alvin and Flora Burandt of Norwood Young America, Sylvia Dummer of Mayer, Darlene Tesch of Shakopee, Larry and Joyce Burandt of Lester Prairie, Diane Kyes of Bismark, N.D., Karen and Marcel Guiningsman of Shakopee; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Anna Burandt of Buffalo, Merlin Burandt of Waconia, Marion Saunders of Waconia, William Lenz of Watertown; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
