Sports 4-18-13 youth sports highlights Published April 18, 2013 at 3:40 pm The 13 JO volleyball team won its home tournament on April 6 in Norwood. The team includes, front row: Jayden Fritz, Abby Mackenthun, and Anna Mackenthun; back row: Kali Grimm, Samantha Miler, Mary Wenisch, Bren Fox, and coach Sarah Hammers. Mayer’s HV 12-purple volleyball team won the championship in the gold division at an NYA tourament April 13. The team includes, front row: coach Jordan Hucky, Claudia Stahlke, Reagan Sauter, Mya Rooke, Libby Kuntz, and Mel Miller; back row: Justine Michalk, Katelyn Shipler, Claire Segner, Clara Hipp, Anna Wachholz, Symone Jopp, and coach Pam Hucky. The Minnesota Suns fourth grade girls’ spring basketball team won the championship at a tournament in Minnetonka last weekend. The team includes players from Waconia, Minnetonka, Lakeville, Prior Lake, Farmington, Eagan, and Hampton. This was the team’s first tournament. The Suns include, front row: Ava Moes (Prior Lake), Kelsey Willems (Minnetonka), Ava McNab (Lakeville), and Grace Plucinak (Lakeville); back row: Paige Kindseth (Hampton), Ellie Kemp (Lakeville), Ellie Temple (Lakeville), Cassidy Carson (Eagan), Melissa Honnold (Waconia) and Peyton Blandin (Farmington). The team is coached by Mike McNab and Mike Plucinak. The Westside Storm seventh grade boys’ spring basketball team made an impressive showing last weekend at a tournament in Shakopee. In their first games of the season, the Storm advanced to the championship game and claimed second place. The team is made up of players from Waconia, Minnetonka, Dassel, and Howard Lake area schools. The Storm include, front row: Kobey Woolhouse (Howard Lake), Christian Honnold (Waconia), Carter Jones (Waconia), and Gram Ims (Minnetonka); back row: coach Dan Leary, Zach Uter (Howard Lake), Thomas Leary (Minnetonka), Nick Fulford (Waconia), Trever Kaiser (Dassel), coach Chris White, and Jake Nelson (Dassel).
