City-wide cleanup

The city of Mayer has contracted with Waste Management to provide curbside city cleanup day. the day is set for this Saturday, April 27. Items that will not be accepted at the curb are tires, appliances, lawn mowers, electronics, and construction waste. Any other household items will be accepted. Please have any items you would like to dispose of at the curb by Friday, April, 26.

 

Medicine Takeback Day

The city of Mayer and the Carver County Sheriff’s Office will be offering a medicine takeback day on Saturday, april 27, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mayer City Hall and Blue Jay Avenue. They will accept medicine from households including: prescription drugs, over the counter medicine, vitamins, supplements and pet medicines. They will not accept needles, sharps or syringes and medications from hospitals, healthcare facilities pharmacies, pharmaceutical representatives, doctors offices and veterinarian clinics. The reasoning behind conducting drug takeback is the growing prescription drug abuse problem — especially among teens — accidental poisoning, and that some medicines are not correctly disposed of.

 

Zion News

Students in Zion’s fifth through eighth grade classroom will be putting on a musical at Mayer Lutheran High School on Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m. The title is “Ever After.”

 

Craft Day

Craft Day will be held this Saturday, April 27, at Zion Lutheran from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. come for a couple hours or stay for the whole day.

 

Vacation Bible School

Zion Lutheran Bible School will be held during the week of June 10-14. Save the date on your calendar so as not to make other plans for that week. “Tell it on the Mountain: Where Jesus Christ is Lord,” is the theme for this year.

 

Poppy Day

The annual Poppy Day sponsored by the Mayer/New Germany Post 601 will be held on Friday, May 3. Members will be selling Poppies on this day throughout both towns.

 

Salad Luncheon

St. John LWML of New Germany will be hosting a Salad Luncheon on Saturday, May 4, at S. John’s Lutheran Church of Hollywood, 17725 53rd St., New Germany. Serving time will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults are $7 and children ages 5 to 12 are $3. Children 4 and under are free.

 

Compost site open

The compost site is located just west of town on County Road 30 between Mayer and New Germany. Open hours for your disposal of waste are Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.
