Obituary: Wallace Strandquist

Obit StrandquistWallace A. Strandquist, 97, of Oster (rural Waverly), went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 23, 2013, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

Funeral services for Wallace A. Strandquist were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at The Oster Covenant Church in rural Waverly. Pastor Jon Bloom officiated. Interment at The Oster Covenant Cemetery.

Wallace was born on Feb. 18, 1916, in Oster (Woodland Township), son of David and esther Strandquist. He graduated in 1934 from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis and completed one year of business school. On Nov. 30, 1941, Wallace was united in marriage to Audrey Sutherland in Edina. They were married for 57 years and they farmed in the Oster community. Wallace was a faithful member of Oster Covenant Church, having served as trustee and treasurer.

He is survived by his loving family: daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Glenn Fredeen of Orono, granddaughters, Pam (Jon) bloom of Minneapolis, Julie (Rick) Clerc of Windom; great-grandchildren, Levi, Eliana, Peter, Moriah and Micah Bloom, Ethan, Colin and Emily Clerc,; sister, Ruth Deidrick of Waverly, sister-in-law, Joyce Erickson of Plymouth, brother-in-law Harry Johnson of Watertown, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, in 1998; his parents, David and Ester Strandquist; brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Novia Strandquist; sister-in-law, Louella Johnson; brothers-in-law, Calvin Deidrick and Douglas Erickson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Hannah Sutherland.

Casket Bearers will be Larry Strandquist, Bill Strandquist, Jim Deidrick, Steve Strandquist, Kevin Erickson and  Gordon Lund. Honorary Casket Bearer will be Don Swanson.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Elim Home and Dr. Scott Jensen for their incredible loving care. We are thankful to god for the gift of Wally’s life. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.
