Three MCWD managers reappointed

By a unanimous vote, the Hennepin County Board recently reappointed Jim Calkins and Brian Shekleton to another 3-year term on the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) Board of Managers. Earlier, the Carver County Board reappointed Bill Olson of Victoria as its representative to the MCWD Board, also by a unanimous vote.
The MCWD is governed by a seven-member board of managers; six are appointed by the Hennepin County Board and the seventh is appointed by the Carver County Board. The appointment process allows the county commissioners to select people with complementary skill sets that are uniquely suited to managing our natural resources in a way that is fiscally responsible and based on sound science.
With Calkins’ scientific background, Shekleton’s public policy experience, and Olson’s corporate work, the MCWD Board has a wealth of knowledge to draw from as it makes decisions about natural resource management issues.
An account manager for General Mills Corp., Olson’s background in best business practices has bolstered the District’s ongoing efforts to operate in a cost efficient and prudent manner.
“I am fortunate to be able to serve on the MCWD Board where I am able to bring my experience in the corporate world and as past member of the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District’s board to the broader watershed community. I will continue my focus on involving our community members in the work we’re doing and keeping people informed and engaged in District activities,” Olson said.
