What a success! Christ Community Lutheran School in Watertown reports that the 2013 inaugural Heart’s Desire 1k, 5k & 10k CCLS Fun Run was an overwhelming success thanks to the race committee, runners, walkers, volunteers and generous donors.

Over 130 participants registered with 115 ready to tackle the beautiful Luce Line trail despite the cold snowy weather to show their support to CCLS. The event was held in Watertown on Saturday, April 20, and started in downtown Watertown where participants were bused to the start lines of the 5k and 10k.

All runners and walkers headed west down the trail to end back downtown to a crowd of people cheering them across the finish line. Bottled water, hot coffee, hot chocolate, apples, bananas, and race rolls were provided post-race. Music provided by GlobalDj played throughout the event. The race was chip timed for the 5k & 10k competitive runners, as well as the occasional runner/walker. There was also a 1k fun run for the kids.

Hand crafted medals (necklaces for the gals and key chains for the guys) were awarded to the top three male and female in both the 5k and 10k race. Overall winners also received a $50 gift card to the Running Room, tickets for two to the Waconia 6 Movie Theater and tickets to the CCLS Boots, Bling & BBQ Spring event. All kids that participated in the 1k Kid Fun Run received a ribbon.

“We’re thrilled that the event went so well,” organizer Joan Corey said. “We’re grateful to all that contributed to the day’s success and are looking forward to the event growing to an even larger scale in the coming years.”
