Elmer E. Fritz, age 83, of Norwood Young America passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
Funeral Service held Monday May 6, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with Rev. Phil Wagner officiating; visitation was Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and at the church one hour prior to the service; interment at the church cemetery.
Elmer was born on Aug. 15, 1929 in Tenhassen Township, Ceylon, Minn., the son of August and Lydia (Simmering) Fritz. He was baptized on Aug. 25, 1929 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ceylon by Rev. E.H.T. Walther and confirmed on April 18, 1943 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert by Rev. John F. Malkow. On July 12, 1953 Elmer was united in marriage to Ella G. Morgenweck at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in rural Waterville by Rev. Ernst Mueller.
Elmer graduated from St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Wilbert in 1943, from Fairmont High School in 1947 and Concordia College, River Forest, Ill., in 1952. He also attended many summer schools at Concordia College, River Forest; Concordia College, St. Paul; and Mankato State, Mankato, Minn.
Elmer taught grades 1-8 at Zion Lutheran School in Fairmont for one year, he taught grades 3-8 at St. Peter’s Lutheran School, rural Waterville for five years, taught grades 4&6 one year, then grade 6 two years, then grade seven two years at Trinity Lutheran School, Fairbault, Minn., and 29 years, primarily in grades 7&8 at Trinity Lutheran School, Waconia. Elmer retired in 1991 and then worked nearly five years at Nordic Track in Chaska. During his years of teaching, he played the organ for 40 years, and directed the choir for 30 years.
After his years of teaching, he served on the Evangelism Board for two years, was an elder for two years, and a serving elder, helped count money each month on Mondays, and volunteered twice a month at the hospital for 10 years.
Elmer enjoyed his hobby farm, wood work, helping his family, and looked forward to having the grandchildren around. Elmer was characterized by his strong faith in his Lord Jesus Christ, a keen sense of integrity, loyalty and humility. He consistently embodied what it means to be a “man after God’s own heart” and was a distinct role model for all who knew and loved him.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents August and Lydia Fritz; son Ron Fritz; Sister Verona Haus.
Elmer is survived by his loving family; wife Ella; daughter Lynn Slauson of Rogers; son and daughters-in-law Gary and Rebecca Fritz of Roseville, Virginia Fritz of Eagle River, Ark.; grandchildren Morgan Slauson, Matthew Slauson, Micah Fritz, Martha Fritz, Emma Fritz; brothers Arven Fritz of Armstrong, Iowa, Roger Fritz of Ceylon; sister-in-law Hilda Anderson of Gig Harbor, Wash.; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Casket Bearers Ken Schwalbe, Ken Koch, Dean Wachholz, Larry Dubbe, Steve Gatz, Dayle Radde, Leroy Kuntz, Robert Leistiko.
Memorials preferred to the Lutheran Hour, Trinity Lutheran School, and Mayer Lutheran High School.
