Watertown-Mayer High School choir students successfully participated in the Section/State MSHSL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Howard Lake/Waverly on April 15. Out of 18 events, 10 earned Superior ratings, which is the highest rating possible (scores from 35-40.) The remaining eighth events earned Excellent ratings (scores of 28-34.)
Although lower ratings are possible, all WM Students earned ratings of Excellent and above.
The two Watertown-Mayer High School choirs also recently participated in MSHSL Large Group Contest, which was held at Buffalo on March 19. Concert Choir (grades 11-12) earned a Superior rating from all three judges, although in order to receive an overall Superior rating, only two out of three judges must give scores in the Superior range (35-40.) Concert Choir performed in the Category 2 difficulty range with “Omnia Sol,” by Z. Randall Stroope, and “Come to the Music,” by Joseph Martin. The Varsity Choir (grades 9-10) earned an overall Excellent rating, with Category 3 performances of “Jubilate Deo,” by Emily Crocker, and “Skye Boat Song,” arranged by Jay Althouse.
Shirlee Gilmore is the WMHS/MS vocal music director, and contest accompanists were Deborah Jean Smith and Merijo Strandquist.
