The Watertown-Mayer girls’ golf team finally got its first meet of the season in on Monday, April 29, at Montgomery Golf Course.
The Royals shot a 211 at the meet, good enough to tie with Belle Plaine for second place behind Jordan, which shot a 202.
“I was pleased overall considering our lack of practice time,” Watertown-Mayer coach Tyler Finkelson said. “Many of the girls had not hit a golf ball outside until the first hole of this conference match. If we’re going to be able to compete with Jordan for the conference title we’ll have to shave off a couple of strokes per girl.”
Hallie Harding led the Royals with a 47, good enough for third place. Sarah Horlocker shot a 53 and Tiffany Anderson was at 54. Alli Lague carded a 57, Lyndzi Durkin shot a 59 and Madeline Nolan shot a 70.
Triana Thong of Jordan shot a 39 to win medalist honors.
The Royals were back in action Tuesday, May 7, for a conference meet at ShadowBrooke Golf Course, and will return to the course Thursday, May 9, for an invitational at Pebble Creek. On Monday, May 13, they’ll golf at an invitational in Belle Plaine.
